Upcoming Album of the Week (Ending March 11)

Terence Malick has a new movie, Song to Song, coming out soon. The takes place in the Austin, Texas music scene and features many prominent musicians, including Patti Smith, Lykke Li, Florence Welch, and Iggy Pop. It's sure to have a killer soundtrack, so keep an eye out on my Upcoming Releases page for it!

This week, two artists announced new albums after long gaps. Fleet Foxes announced Crack-Up and Lorde announced Melodrama.

Fleet Foxes came on the scene in 2006 with a distinct folk sound that spawned numerous lesser sound-alike acts. They released two albums, a self-titled record in 2008 and 2011's Helplessness Blues, then went on hiatus in 2013.

The first inklings of new music came late last year, when frontman Robin Pecknold shared a screenshot showing four Fleet Foxes albums in an iTunes library: their two previous records, their Sun Giant EP, and something named Ylajali. Though that proved not to be the name of the new record, they did make good on the anticipation and announced it on Tuesday. They also released the first single from the record, "Third of May / Ōdaigahara".

The wait for Lorde's sophomore album hasn't been quite as long and she's been more visible since the release of 2013's Pure Heroine. Following the break-out album and its hit single "Royals," she released multiple songs for the Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 soundtrack, was featured on a rework of Son Lux's "Easy", and recorded a song with Disclosure for Caracal.

She announced her follow-up on March 2, though it didn't get a release date until this week. She's released two songs from the album, "Liability" and "Green Light."

Both albums are set to be released on June 16.
